An individual who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two young males both nine and ten years old.

The accused was arrested after eight children and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on Friday.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was kept in jail before a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he managed.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the next day.

She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.

The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his stepson had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC said objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated the defendant continued to conduct the "candy game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"The police had not gone out by that stage," she added.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the events.

The legal representative said the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member notified the law enforcement again.

She stated the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
